IP Risk Management Lead

The Opportunity

Save the Children International has an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as the IP Risk Management Lead in London, UK or any existing Save the Children International Regional or Country office worldwide.

Role Purpose:

Save the Children has agreed an ambitious new strategy for 2022-24, which requires us to take risk to reach the world’s most marginalised children - often in complex environments. This ambition also requires us to have robust mechanisms for managing the risks that threaten the communities we serve, our brand, and our assets – including our people. Save the Children sees the effective management of risk (internal and external) and pursuit of opportunity as the responsibility of all staff, with business units across the organisation (i.e. ‘risk owners’) responsible for risk identification, assessment and mitigation in collaboration with other business units (the ‘first line’ of defence).

As a key member of the International Programs Department but also working closely with the Head of Risk Facilitation, the IP Risk Management Lead provides support in developing a risk culture and systems within IP, with particular focus on Regional and Country Offices. S/he leads on all aspects in relation to risk management within IP (SCI and members) with a focus on continuous improvement, simplification and alignment across Save the Children. S/he enables, monitors and challenges key stakeholders within IP and members in collectively responding to organisational risk.

In order to be successful you will bring/have:

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Country and/or Regional Office experience and the ability to bring this perspective into risk management processes and ways of working.
  • Significant senior level leadership and management experience in a large and complex international NGO or organization
  • Significant experience managing field operations, including operational risk management, across the full spectrum of programming from humanitarian assistance to development, with a strong understanding of institutional needs supportive of the global mission
  • Ability to deliver cross functional projects on time and on budget, using project management processes and tools including risk management, benefits management, financial management and quality assurance
  • Proficiency in cross-functional leadership, building effective teams, and reaching objectives through the use of influence. Demonstrated ability to thrive in a matrix management environment.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to influence others, to liaise with a wide range of people at all levels and across different cultures and to act with credibility, tact and diplomacy
  • Excellent planning, management and coordination skills. Strong time management skills with an ability to plan ahead, anticipate requirements, problems and obstacles. Ability to juggle competing priorities successfully, and to work to tight deadlines with the capacity to organise a substantial workload comprised of complex, diverse tasks and responsibilities
  • Experience in solving complex issues through analysis, definition of a clear way forward and ensuring buy in
  • Excellent business partnering, communication and relationship building skills. Demonstrated ability to develop and manage productive relationships with SC member agencies and senior staff
  • Experience in implementing organisational structure/operating model change projects in the NGO sector
  • Post-graduate qualifications or equivalent experience in international development or a related discipline
  • Strong and clear commitment to Save the Children’s values
  • Ability and willingness to change work practices and hours in thse event of major events & crises, including travelling at short notice

We can offer circa £62,000 per annum (If based in UK) with an option of flexible working hours. If the role is based outside of the UK, National T&C (including pay) will apply.

This role can be based in London or any existing Save the Children International Regional or Country office location / homebased on approval, provided the successful candidate has proof of eligibility to work from the preferred location.
