Ensuring Every Child is Protected in Zanzibar

Despite strides by the government and stakeholders to eradicate violence, there are still many children in Tanzania who report experiencing violence and abuse; many of them failing to receive immediate support. 

According to government statistics collected from the police, about 1,091 abuse and violence- related incidents were reported to various police stations in Unguja and Pemba in 2017/2018, compared to 2,449 incidents that were reported in 2016/2017.

Improving Access to Primary Education for Children in Refugee Camps: Sylvana Story

 

 

 

Nyarugusu,

Sylvana, 13, is a Burundian girl currently living with her parents and younger brother in Nyarugusu refugee camp in Tanzania. “When I was in Burundi. I would see other children go to school while I had to stay at home because my father could not afford to buy me a pair of shoes. Despite all the challenges I wanted to go to school.” Sylvana narrates.
