In 2022, an estimated 20,000 people in the regions of Katavi, Kigoma, Rukwa and Manyara were at risk of contracting cholera. With over 211 confirmed cases and 6 deaths, Save the Children took action by providing emergency assistance to affected communities. Collaborating with the government of Tanzania, Save the Children reached a total of 26,196 individuals with prevention services, including medical and WASH services.

 Additionally, when an outbreak of Leptospirosis was mistaken for Ebola in Lindi Region, Save the Children worked with the government to identify cases and provide necessary assistance to and respond to the outbreak.  A total of 6,196 individuals were supported through case surveillance and identification, WASH services, information sharing, and capacity building for government healthcare structures. Furthermore, the impact of climate change resulted in more than 53 primary schools in the districts of Handeni and Mkinga facing food insecurity. Partnering with World Vision, Save the Children provided lifesaving relief to children, families, teachers, and farmers in these districts between July and October 2022 by introducing school feeding programs in the primary schools, providing daily lunch meals to over 26,056 children.
